U2 to play at New York’s Apollo Theater for SiriusXM on June 11th. Invitation only!

Announced on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” today, U2 will take over New York City’s famed Apollo Theater for one June evening.   Described as a “one night detour” from U2’s eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE tour, the band’s date at the Apollo is June 11.

It certainly will be an up-close-and-personal night with Bono & Company.  The venue’s 1,500-plus capacity is considerably smaller than the arenas the North America arenas the band has laid out for 2018.

The Apollo show will be U2’s first intimate New York concert since 2000 when the band played Irving Plaza.

SiriusXM will air the concert on channel 30 following the performance and through the SiriusXM app on smartphones and other connected devices, as well as on SiriusXM.com.

“New York City and the U2 band have a unique history,” Bono said in a statement. “From the songs of Lou Reed, Billie Holiday and the Ramones that taught us how to listen, to the New Yorkers at our earliest U.S. shows who taught us how to play, the souls of New York and U2 have always been intertwined. The Apollo Theater is the heart of New York’s musical soul, and to finally be playing our songs on the same stage where James Brown begged ‘Please Please Please’ is not only a bucket list moment, it’s an incredible honor.”
